Though they’d both grown up in Spokane, WA, spent their summers at cabins on Priest Lake, worked at the same restaurant/resort, and attended the same summer camp, it took a wedding for the paths of Maisie and Mo to cross. Mo’s twin brother was tying the knot with Maisie’s friend since kindergarten, and Mo decided to introduce himself to Maisie. The conversation took off, as the two of them talked for almost an hour after the bride and groom left. They started dating that fall. Mo was living in Spokane, while Maisie spent her time in Seattle, but after a couple years of long distance, Maisie made the move to Spokane.
It turned out that Mo was so excited to propose to Maisie that he couldn’t keep it a secret. “I, being the too-observant planner that I am, am tough to surprise. In early September, he let it slip that he had chosen a ring for me. A few weeks later, my mom invited me for massages and manicures at the Davenport Spa. She said she wanted to go to dinner afterwards and get all dressed up, insisting that I wear a dress. (This never happens.) On the same day, my future mother-in-law casually asked, ‘What’s your favorite flower?’ I pretended that none of these things made me suspicious. After a day at the spa, my mom and I walked into the restaurant for dinner, and the hostess led us to a table where Mo was sitting, dressed in a suit with a beautiful bouquet of sunflowers. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner together and went on a walk by the Spokane River. On our walk, Mo gave me a letter. When I had finished reading it, I looked up to see him on one knee.” says Maisie.
Immediately following Maisie’s “yes,” Mo gave her letters from every member of both of their families, expressing their congratulations and love for them.
“We are just so excited to celebrate our love with our family and friends! Even more than that though, we are both really excited for the honeymoon and to start living life together in the beautiful home we are in the process of buying.” The talented Hillary Belton captured the couple’s excitement in their gorgeous Leavenworth engagement session.
Aly and Zach first met in their graphic design program at Western Washington University, and it wasn’t until they entered into their BFA programs that they discovered that they were designed for one another. Aly secured an internship in his hometown, which led to the two of them spending time plenty of time together as he showed her around the streets of Edmonds.
When you love someone, they make even the best things a little better. They’re like the icing to your cake, or in this case, the marshmallows to your hot chocolate. To celebrate their love, Natasha and Cody took to Mount Cain on Vancouver Island, BC for the ultimate snow day engagement session, captured by Kimberley Kufaas.
The promise of a new year is exciting, but what’s even more thrilling is the promise of sharing a lifetime of new years with the one you love. To celebrate their engagement, high school sweethearts Matt and Melina took to the charming riverside in Wilsonville, Oregon.
The two of them grew up together, sharing a journey from their prom nine years ago to their beachfront proposal in Cabo. Their portrait session pays tribute to the place that holds some of their favorite memories, from fishing to boating to relaxing with family.
What’s so special about photographs is that they never change, and Jamie Rae Photo beautifully captured Matt and Melina’s effortless connection. Their portraits are real, romantic moments that will stay constant, just like they have been for one another:
“Over the course of our relationship, we have experienced wonderful times along with incredible loss. Broken relationships in our families, people we care about struggling with addiction, and death of loved ones to name a few. We have been a constant in each others’ life within the chaos it has brought at times.I am so thankful that I have found someone who is the first person I want to celebrate with on happy days and cry with on sad. He is my family. ”
An engagement marks the beginning of the most beautiful journey, and there’s no better way to capture the spirit of traveling together than with a sweet exploration-inspired engagement shoot set in the beautiful surroundings of Salmon la Sac. From the sweet cabin-side shots to the adorable save the date map, the adventurous spirit of love fills each of the images captured by the talented Samantha McFarlen. As if that didn’t sound charming enough, the couple even brought along their dog as an additional guide.
Any time a couple wants to go on an adventure for their engagement session, I get really excited. Katie, Kyle and their dog met me, my husband and our dog out at the campground and we just took off into the woods, stopping at cool spots to take photos. We hit a few different locations, let the dogs play, and then had beers together at the world famous Brick Saloon in Roslyn. It’s cheesy, but I really enjoy my job because I get to share in these special times in my clients’ lives not only as their photographer but as their friend. Katie has such an amazing vision for her wedding and I can’t wait to photograph it in just 5 short months!” – Samantha McFarlen
